NEW DELHI: Asaduddin Owaisi, the leader of AIMIM, has criticized the central government for implementing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA), calling it “unconstitutional”.
Owaisi said, “BJP has made unconstitutional law – CAA. It has been made based on religion, which goes against the right to equality, therefore I tore a copy of the Citizenship (Amendment) bill in the Parliament. We were, are and continue to be against this.”
The AIMIM chief expressed optimism about his party’s candidates performing well in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. He clarified that AIMIM is not in alliance with any party in Telangana, while in Uttar Pradesh, they have formed the PDM (pichda, Dalit, Mulsim) alliance. Owaisi emphasized his party’s clarity and faith in their hard work, stating that he is confident of their candidates’ victory.
Responding to BJP leader Madhavi Latha’s allegations of bogus votes in the Hyderabad constituency, Owaisi accused the BJP of abusing the Election Commission. He said, “every year in January, the inclusion of names happens and then lists come out. A final voter comes out before the elections…This means that they are abusing the Election Commission.”
Owaisi, the current Member of Parliament from Hyderabad, also engaged in door-to-door campaigning in the Falkanuma area of the city, urging voters to support AIMIM candidates. The Lok Sabha election in Telangana’s 17 parliamentary constituencies is scheduled for May 17. In the 2019 general election, TRS secured nine seats, BJP won four, Congress obtained three, and AIMIM retained one seat.
