NEW DELHI: Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh on Tuesday confirmed that Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal‘s personal assistant Bibhav Kumar misbehaved with AAP MP Swati Maliwal, saying the AAP convenor has taken cognisance of the matter and will take appropriate action.
“Yesterday, a condemnable incident took place. Swati Maliwal had gone to Arvind Kejriwal’s residence to meet him.While she was waiting for him in the drawing room, Bibhav Kumar misbehaved with her. The CM has taken cognisance of the matter, and he will take appropriate action,” said Sanjay Singh.
High-voltage drama unfolded at Arvind Kejriwal’s house in north Delhi on Monday morning after Swati Maliwal claimed in a PCR call that she had been assaulted by Bibhav on Kejriwal’s instructions.
This brought the cops to the spot. Later, she went to the Civil Lines police station in order to file an FIR. However, after receiving some phone calls there, she left, telling the cops she would return.
The cops have marked her complaint as “pending” and no FIR had been filed. Police have also sought legal opinion on whether they can proceed on the basis of the DD entry and PCR call, a protocol followed in many cases.
Meanwhile, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva demanded an investigation into the assault and said that the residence of CM Kejriwal’s “house is not safe for women”.
“It is regrettable that within Delhi, there is a chief minister who first got his chief secretary beaten up at his residence and now his female associate has been assaulted,” he said.
“If a Rajya Sabha MP, who is also a former chairperson of the Delhi Women’s Commission, is not safe in the CM’s residence, then how can the women of Delhi be safe,” said BJP’s Delhi chief.
Amid attacks by the BJP, the NCW said that it will be sending an inquiry team to look into the case. The NCW said it will also send a formal letter to the Delhi police to send an action taken report (ATR) in the matter in three days.
“MP Rajya Sabha Smt Swati Maliwal reportedly assaulted at Delhi CM’s residence. The National Commission for Women (NCW) vows action, demanding justice from Delhi Police and sending an inquiry team.
“Perpetrators must be held accountable. NCW will be sending a formal letter to Delhi Police to send an ATR in this matter in 3 days,” the NCW said in a post.
While the AAP has spoken on the matter, there has been no formal statement from Swati Maliwal.
